My mother is not a formally educated woman; but she is one of the wisest persons I know. I remember hating kindergarten: the lunch, my teacher, the awful-sounding jingles. One afternoon, I decided in my five year old wisdom, that I was not going back. I waited until I was having breakfast the next day before sharing this decision with my mother. I don’t remember much else about the day. But I do recall that she chased me up a rather steep hill- repeating the words of a covenant I continued to hear throughout my teenage years: None of her girls would be like her. Later, I came to fully appreciate what that meant. I disagree with the sentiment in one sense. I am my mother’s daughter. Her faith, tenacity and strength have been passed on to me. Rachel Hannah (my mother’s name) is the pen name of Winsome Richards. My island-themed love stories are inspired by my formative years in Jamaica.
Today, if I am not buried under a mountain of school papers, I am usually planning youth Bible class lessons, reading, writing or trying recipes from The Great British Baking Show with my husband and our two boys.
He lives,
Rachel
